Early Childhood: Math at the Museum

Our talented team of Museum educators are committed to providing an engaging experience that brings SOL-related content to life for your students. We bring passion and energy to each program to ensure the highest level of impact and retention. To learn more about this program, click on one of the format options listed below.

Duration: 60 minutes

This unique program combines storytelling, playful learning, and an exciting museum tour, making math both fun and memorable for our young learners. The program includes:

Storytime:
Students will practice listening comprehension while immersing themselves in the world of maritime adventures.

Interactive Math Game:
Students will participate in a lively game designed to practice counting and number identification. This activity is crafted to enhance their numerical skills while encouraging teamwork and active participation.

Exploration of the International Small Craft Center: The adventure continues with a guided tour of the museum’s International Small Craft Center. Here, students will marvel at a diverse collection of boats from around the world and make real-world connections to the math concepts introduced during the story and game.

Join us at the museum for a delightful blend of math, stories, and exploration that will leave your little ones excited about learning and discovering the world around them!

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to: 

  • identify and name numbers 1-10.
  • answer simple “wh” questions about a story.
  • follow verbal directions to complete tasks.

  • Remembers and follows 2-step directions to complete simple tasks (e.g., “wash your hands then help prepare or eat a snack”) (APL3.2l)
  • Asks or answers questions about what is happening in a book or story (CLLD2.2k)
  • Retells 1-2 key events from a story (CLLD2.2l)
  • Names some numbers when they appear in print (CD3.1j)

Pricing:

Payment can be made before the program, or we can invoice following your program.

  • Programs at the Museum are $4.50 per student.
    All adults accompanying a field trip are free.
  • Programs at your location are $4.50 per student.
  • Virtual education programs are $125 per program.

Reservations are required for all programs and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs fill quickly in the fall and spring, so make your reservations a minimum of two weeks in advance.
