The Mariners’ Receives $15,000 From Sentara Health to Support Lake Stewards

The Mariners’ Museum and Park has received a $15,000 grant from Sentara Health to support the Mariners’ Lake® Stewards program during the 2024-25 school year. The award will fund student transportation, the purchase of supplies, teacher professional development, and staff time. This school year, 2,000 ninth-grade students will participate in Lake Stewards, an immersive program empowering students to become environmental stewards as they gain knowledge of Mariners’ Lake and its ecosystem.


The Mariners’ Evening Lecture Series Returns This Fall

The Mariners’ Museum and Park continues its compelling Evening Lecture Series this fall with presentations from two esteemed figures. The lectures will take place on October 17 and November 14 at 7 p.m. For the first time, a member of The Mariners’ Team has been selected as a speaker.


The Mariners’ Awarded Rotary District Grant for Discovery Project

The Mariners’ Museum and Park has been awarded a Rotary Foundation District Grant of $24,750. The grant will provide upgrades to create a welcoming outdoor space for children ages two through five in Mariners’ Park. The Discovery Project reflects The Mariners’ commitment to the school-aged child and efforts to promote a new generation of environmental stewards.


The Mariners’ Museum and Park Named Recipient of 2024 IMLS National Leadership Grants for Museums

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced that The Mariners’ Museum and Park is a recipient of the 2024 National Leadership Grants for Museums. This award provides $654,308 to support groundbreaking research within The Mariners’ Batten Conservation Complex, benefiting the broader museum field and addressing a conservation field-wide need for the development of improved treatment options for waterlogged organic materials, such as wood, leather, and textiles, excavated from maritime archaeological sites.



The Mariners’ Museum and Park Wins Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award 2024

The Mariners’ Museum and Park has been recognized in Tripadvisor’s® Travelers’ Choice® Awards for 2024. The award honors businesses that consistently earn great reviews, placing them among the top 10 percent of listings around the world on Tripadvisor.


Third Annual Sips & Trips Event at Mariners’ Museum June 22

Sips & Trips, the premier food and wine event hosted by The Mariners’ Museum and Park, returns this year. This signature experience will take place Saturday, June 22, from 6:30 p.m until 9:30 p.m. and offers guests a one-of-a-kind opportunity to view handwritten letters, photographs, and artifacts from USS Monitor and its men.


The Mariners’ Museum and Park Selected For Fredericksburg Film Festival

The Mariners’ Museum and Park has been selected for the first annual Fredericksburg Film Festival. The Museum’s short film, In the Name of the Oyster, was submitted in the Documentary Short category. This honor is the first of its kind for The Mariners’ and the film’s director, Kyra Duffley.


The Mariners’ to Host MilKids Fest in Celebration of Military Kids on April 14

The Mariners’ Museum and Park reaffirms their commitment to serving the military community with their second annual Mariners’ MilKids Fest on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from noon to 4 p.m. (Eastern time). This event is in celebration of Month of the Military Child, a yearly campaign which aims to increase recognition and awareness of the many sacrifices military families make. The Mariners’ MilKids Fest is in partnership with TwelveMillionPlus, the first and only verified digital platform for the military spouse community.


The Mariners’ Museum and Park Named Finalist for 2024 IMLS National Medal for Museum and Library Service

The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced today that The Mariners’ Museum and Park is among 30 finalists for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The Mariners’ is the only museum in Virginia to be selected as a finalist for this award, which is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant and exceptional impact in their communities. 


The Mariners’ Museum to Commemorate the 162nd Anniversary of the Battle of Hampton Roads on March 9, 2024

The Mariners’ Museum and Park continues to honor their mission of “connecting people to the world’s waters and to one another” with their annual commemoration of the legendary Battle of Hampton Roads on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
