Ocean Speaks: How Marie Tharp Revealed the Ocean’s Biggest Secret
From a young age, Marie Tharp loved watching the world. She loved solving problems. She loved pushing the limits of what girls and women were expected to do and be. She faced many barriers in her career, and the science field was no exception. When Marie landed a job at a laboratory in New York, she learned that women were not allowed on research ships – women were considered bad luck on boats. So Marie stayed back in the office and dove deep into the data her colleagues recorded, mapping point after point, and slowly revealing a deep rift valley in the ocean floor. Come hear this inspiring picture biography of Marie Tharp, who became the first person to map the Earth’s underwater mountain ridge.
