Marc Nucup shares the history of a German ensign flag carried aboard the North German Lloyd cargo ship SS Mark. The flag was preserved by Capt. Ernst Loewe while he was imprisoned in the United States. Its story recalls, in microcosm, the merchant maritime experience throughout WWI.
