About the Lecture
This August 5, 1864 engagement closed the final major Confederate port on the Gulf of Mexico. After a fierce battle was fought between the two highest ranking officers of the Civil War, Admirals Franklin Buchanan and David Glasgow Farragut gave their all to achieve victory; still, the Union superior fleet prevailed. “Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead!”
