Select Saturdays and Sundays during the summer
Take a journey back in time at The Mariners’ Museum and Park this summer as you meet sailors, cooks, signalman’s mates, and others in the galleries! Hear intriguing tales of maritime adventures from 17th through 20th Century costumed historical interpreters who will be roaming the galleries on select dates from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Explore life on USS Monitor or CSS Virginia, join in singing songs of the American Civil War and sea shanties, and examine the world of an 18th century ship’s surgeon, just to name a few.
Seafaring Melodies
Enjoy learning about early navigation aboard a ship with costumed interpreter David Gardner, and listen to sea shanties and historic tunes played on a fiddle.
Medicine and Maladies
Medicine has come a long way over the centuries! Costumed historical interpreter Chris Grimes will share his vast knowledge of medicine during the Age of Exploration. Guests will certainly leave with an appreciation for modern medicine.
A “Sea”food Perspective
Eric Jeanneret, who portrays the USS Monitor cook and a colonial ship’s cook, brings a table full of kitchen and food items—including sea biscuits that while baked five years ago, would have been considered a “fresh” breakfast in the terms of the military.
The Theory of Sea Power
Join Mike Johnson in Defending the Seas where he will be discussing the War of 1812, World War I or even World War II.
