About the Lecture
Josiah Tattnall served with distinction in the US Navy from 1813 to 1861, fighting at the battles of Craney Island and Taku Forts. The flag officer would join the Confederate Navy, His service included commanding CSS Virginia and Savannah squadrons; despite this, he never attained the success of his previous US Navy career.
