Conservator inside USS Turret

Presenter

Will Hoffman
Director of Conservation and Chief Conservator

Within the Batten Conservation Complex we often get asked what’s happening with the turret, when will its conservation be completed, and/or why does it take so long to treat? Over the past 23 years, The Mariners’ Team has made much progress in the conservation and stabilization of the iconic artifact. This lecture will provide an overview of the turret’s conservation to date, highlighting challenges and accomplishments associated with the effort. The presentation will also outline future steps required to get the turret out of the tank and on public display.
