About the Lecture
John L. Worden transferred from the US Naval Observatory to secure an active role in the Mexican War. Named executive officer of the storeship USS Southampton, Worden proceeded to California to service the Pacific Squadron. Southampton eventually sailed south to support American operations in the Gulf of California to secure the Baja Peninsula for the United States. Worden played an active combat support role until the war ended.
